I've figured out this modem a bit better. Set to 28.8 K speed, it works fine.
On 31.2 K, a problem shows up when you make a ppp connection. About 17 seconds into the connection, ping times increase from .3 second to about 5 seconds, while something is going on, but it recovers. Set to 33.6 K, this abberation mostly locks up the modem. I do not know whether this problem is caused by the ppp daemon, the usb driver, the Roadster II modem or the modem at the other end. I suspect it is some problem with speed re-negotiation or the compression algorithm. On 31.2 K it is still doing better than my old modem, so that's a compromise I'll settle on for the moment. It is sad I cannot get a persistent connection at 33.6 K. I'll post something to the modems web page. -- John August I am comfortable with my own delusions. _______________________________________________ [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe, use the last form field at: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-usb-users
