Hi everyone, I am the owner of a Philips ToUCam XS, which uses the OV518 chipset, and I have noticed that Mark McClelland is doing his best to get working support for this camera in the OV511 driver. Recently he suggested that people could contact OmniVision asking them to support the Linux community, and I did just that. Below is the e-mail I sent to them. I thought I would send it here so others could send a similar mail to them. The more of us that ask for support the more likely is it that it will happen. Here is the mail I sent to Customer Service at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and tech support at [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
"" Dear OmniVision, I am the owner of a Philips USB webcamera which is based on the OV518 OmniVision chipset. My operatig system is Linux, and Mark McClelland is the person working to make a driver that supports this chipset. Unfortunately Mark has not been given specificications or code for how the compression on this chipset works, and he is therefore not able to create a driver for it. OmniVision has previously provided specifications to Mark with the OV511 chipset, so I hope the same can happen for the OV518 chipset. What I am hoping for is that you please help support us Linux users by providing Mark with the specifications he needs to develop the driver. Marc McClelland can be reached at [EMAIL PROTECTED], and the webpage devoted to his project to support OmniVision chipsets is located at http://alpha.dyndns.org/ov511/ I hope we can work something out that will benefit us both. Remember that Mark is developing drivers for your devices for free. This is in my opinion something you should be grateful for and openly support. "" Please feel free to reuse this mail if you want to contact OmniVision. Thanks to all USB developers for their nice work, -- Andr Dahlqvist <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> _______________________________________________ [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe, use the last form field at: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-usb-users
