Great, I'll add it to the next round of patches for both 2.4.x and 2.5.x.

You are still registering the device, but you don't need to have
multiple usb_serial_types for devices that use the same functions.  You
only need to set the usb ids for the device (which my patch does.)  See
my cleanup of the usb-serial drivers in the 2.5.1-pre kernel series for
the changes that I made to all of the drivers along these lines.
