This device should work just fine with the "USB Xircom / Entregra Single Port Serial Driver" that is in the more recent kernels. I That should be "usbserial.o" I'll try to remember to bug the Guide's author about that :) That change will not work with this device, you need the latest kernel and the latest Xircom driver for it.
