This device should work just fine with the "USB Xircom / Entregra Single
Port Serial Driver" that is in the more recent kernels.  You will have
to build your own kernel, as Red Hat's kernel is not new enough.

That should be "usbserial.o"  I'll try to remember to bug the Guide's
author about that :)

That change will not work with this device, you need the latest kernel
and the latest Xircom driver for it.
