The SANE site has a list of supported scanners:
http://www.mostang.com/sane/sane-backends.html
Or download sane-backends and just look at what packages are included
(which might be more up-to-date than the page is).

Not many USB listings, but there are a few.  I have a MicroTek 3600
(sm3600 driver) which seems to work fine with the latest sane-backend,
though I haven't had it long so I can't say yet how solid it is.

I think most of these use libusb, so looking for kernel scanner drivers
doesn't tell you the whole story.
