I've got an Intel 440BX based system. It's an ABIT BH6 motherboard. 
 Here is what I type to download images:
# modprobe usb-uhci
# modprobe usb-storage
# mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb
# cp  /mnt/usb/dcim/100hp612/im*.jpg .
# umount /dev/sda1
