Removing the OHCI add-on card and installing the newly found onboard UHCI connectors through an internal cable has eliminated the problems. Whether there is a bug with a driver (OHCI or Speedtouch) or whether the PCI bus and the DLINK add-on card were unhappy to cooperate, or even maybe the simultaneous presence of OHCI and UHCI ports cause the problem will remain unknown, but my setup is finally working and it's time to move on to other problems.
