> Why don't you start by reading http://www.linux-usb.org ?

I did - I don't see anything there which gives more things
 to try.

The session which I listed in my mail shows me taking
most of the steps listed in Linux USB Guide, I can see
that the hub is detected, and the number of ports is found,
 for example.

I think the message about the device not being claimed
by any active driver is significant, as it means the beast
 is not being recognised.

I've attempted to add an unusual device entry to describe
it, but that didn't help - unless I misunderstood what I
was supposed to add, (guessing the flags is not a good thing
 to do).

I did imagine that the following would show more information,
 but it doesnt:

> root@hell:~# cat /proc/scsi/usb/2
> Host scsi1: usb-storage
> Vendor: Unknown
> Product: Unknown
> Serial Number: None
> Protocol: 8070i
> Transport: Control/Bulk
> GUID: 0b8651100000000000000000

If you have any ideas as to what to try next, or any
interesting ideas then I'd be happy to hear them..
