mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device So I'm not sure this fix would work for you, but it might be worth a try. See: http://www.gingerbear.org/~esm/olympus/ for an explanation of the fix, which involves changing one number in a driver source file. You don't have to re-compile the whole kernel, just the modules. So it wouldn't be difficult to change it back if it didn't work.
