AFAIK, the USB hub code has never been tested with a | hub with more than 7 ports.
I tested a hub that reported 9 or 10 ports. And I made changes to data structures to support that, up to 16 ports anyway. That part used to work after my changes, but not before them, for a hub with more than 8 ports. 5 open USB ports, 1 PS/2 keyboard, 1 PS/2 mouse, 1 serial, 1 parallel port. Total 9 ports, all seen as USB. Oh, email archives... There are threads on this from 2000. Patch was sent to Alan (for 2.2.19) on 2001-feb-20. See: http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=linux-usb-devel&m=98271329814450&w=2 Ah, I'm recalling it now: Mobility EasiDock. http://www.easidock.com/products/product.asp?ProductID=1002 | Anyway, there are plenty of very reliable hubs with less than 8 ports.
