Hello, linux-usb-users, 

      Hi people,  i am trying tp configurel an HP laserjet 1000   at 
Slackware 8.0. 

but tried several configurations... 

didnt work ... 

Let me explain what did i do: 

1) connected the printer at the usb computer; 
2) installed slackware 8.0 and upgrade to 2.4.18 with mod-utils 2.4.16 
3) cd /usr/src/linux 
make menuconfig 
usb support 
Support for USB 
Preliminary USB 
Device Filesystem 
USB Controller -> UHCI, and OCHIe, 
USB Printer support 
4) 
i followed: 

### 
###http://www.linux-usb.org/USB-guide/book1.html 
and 
###http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/hardware/usbprinter.html 


 USB 
Kernel: 

cd /usr/src/linux 
make menuconfig 
usb support 
Support for USB 
Preliminary USB 
Device Filesystem 
USB Controller,  -> UHCI,  OCHI 
USB Printer support. 

recomplile o kernel: 
make dep 
make clean 
make 
bzlilo 

make modules 
make 
modules_install 

 reboot. 

mount -t usbdevfs usbdevfs / proc/bus/usb 

5) cd /dev 
mknod 
/dev/usb/usblp0 c 180 0 

6) 
cd /dev 
chmod 660 -R usb/ 
chown -R 
root:daemon usb/ 
chgrp -R daemon usb/ 

7) Testing: 

cat /etc/hosts > /dev/usb/usblp0 

nothing happens... 

if i do it again, 
i receive: 
device or resource busy, 

tried to kill via fuser -k (number) /dev/usb/usblp0 
no good. 

and i have to reboot the system after that... 

What is happening here? 

What did i do wrong? 

Please, help me.
