Thanks for your reply. I had read your post with interest, because it 
reported the same problem I was experiencing. However, it did not seem
to reach a conclussion, and that's why I posted again. It seems clear now
that the problem is very likely the hardware, and the best solution seems
to be to try a different cable, which I will probably do.
