And Prolific evidently doesn't like to help its customers figure
out problems, so that may not get fixed.  It does seem clear that
they've modified their silicon without changing USB descriptors,
which is usually not a sign of a vendor with a good handle on
change control issues for products.  (Or maybe that's the fault
of whoever manufactured your Prolific-based cable.  Hard to know.)

No.  I don't have GeneSys hardware (that support was sent to me and
then by folk who do have it), but even using the Prolific hardware
(when it works!) I normally don't see any significant packet loss.

Do you get messages from the driver saying why it's dropping anything?
