Hello, I have a problem with the printer named into the subject. After having verified that: - the following modules are loaded: lp printer uhci usbcore
(I also tried using the usb-uhci module, but it even cannot be loaded, the system hangs or a segmentation fault occurs.) - the printer has been "recognized" and has been assigned the correct driver: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/2, assigned device number 3 usb.c: kmalloc IF c6b97440, numif 1 usb.c: new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 usb.c: USB device number 3 default language ID 0x409 Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard Product: DeskJet 920C SerialNumber: HU1AJ6R100BI usb.c: ignoring set_interface for dev 3, iface 0, alt 0 printer.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 3 if 0 alt 0 usb.c: usblp driver claimed interface c6b97440 - /proc/bus/usb/drivers reports: 0- 15: usblp /proc/bus/usb/devices reports: I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=07(print) Sub=01 Prot=02 Driver=usblp - Into /etc/modules.conf I have: alias usb-printer printer alias usblp printer (only paranoia I think, or is it necessary ?) - Into /etc/usb I have: crw-rw-rw- 1 root lp 180, 0 Aug 30 2001 /dev/usb/lp0 What happens is, even if I try to write something directly onto /dev/usb/lp0, or if I try to print via CUPS, I obtain an Input/output error. In particular, from CUPS I see that the error returned by the kernel is the following: Unable to open USB port device file "/dev/usb/lp0": Input/output error How may I discover the reason of the error without being forced to trace what is happening inside the kernel (2.4.18) ? Am I missing something in my system setup ?
