Hello experts.
Is it possible to set the spindown timeout of a usb-storage device which
is actually a ATA harddisk? Usually I would call
hdparm -S241 /dev/hda
or something similar in order to shutdown my directly attached ata
harddisk after 30 minutes of inactivity. This does IMHO not work since
usb-storage devices are offered as scsi to the kernel.
I know from the windows drivers it is at least possible to spin-down the
disk before removing it. Is there a special usb command for deactivating
usb devices?
So what does a solution look like?
1) a special tool for spinning down scsi disks exists and
is compatible with usb-storage.
2) hdparm can send ide commandos to the usb device.
3) special usb command.
4) ?
Are there any comments in the usb-storage specs (which i haven't read yet)?
Thanks for any information.
greetings,
Eduard Hasenleithner
