In 2.5 kernels there's usb_make_path(), which returns a stable physical bus ID that encodes the topology ... like "usb-05:01.3-2.4". That groups bus type, usb_bus.bus_name, and usb_dev.devname; devname encodes the path through hubs from the root hub. That can be used to solve "this camera points to X" problem ... :) A number of folk have wanted that backported to the 2.4 series, which might actually happen. Regardless, I'd suggest that the 2.5 USB webcam (and other drivers) expose that ID to applications. Several of the usb network drivers use this for the "ethtool" bus info ... which can be used to solve the corresponding problem for network links. - Dave ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe, use the last form field at: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-usb-users
