Which protocol did you use? IntelliMouse?
I'm using /dev/input/mice with a Protocol of ImPS/2.
I wonder if that might be the difference... I just now tried using
protocols of "Auto" and "usb" and "USB". Auto didn't work (the mouse
just remained at the center of the screen when I move it) and XFree86
didn't recognize either usb or USB.
Can anyone tell me which protocol I should be using? Could the protocol
cause the extra buttons to report as buttons 2 and 3?
I'm running XFree86 4.1 right now. Should I upgrade to 4.2?
