Include usbdev filesystem, when you compile the kernel. Then try> mount -t usbdevfs none /proc/bus/usb

According to the 'working devices database' at http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/ it should work... but so far I haven't gotten there yet. The problem is that /proc/bus/usb/devices is missing. At least that is what usbview says and it's right.. in fact /proc/bus/usb is missing entirely ;( the system: kernel : homegrown 2.4.19 with usb-support (modules) hotplug : hotplug_0.0.20020826-1_all.deb Looking at the logs (see below) it seems to work and I can't figure out what is wrong. Not that that is a great surprise, cause all this is new to me ;) Could someone point me in the right direction? thanks, Bram ----------------- logmessages when I plugin: Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: uhci.c: root-hub INT complete: port1: 80 port2: 93 data: 4 Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: hub.c: port 1, portstatus 100, change 0, 12 Mb/s Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: hub.c: port 2, portstatus 101, change 1, 12 Mb/s Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: hub.c: port 2 connection change Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: hub.c: port 2, portstatus 101, change 1, 12 Mb/s Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: hub.c: port 2, portstatus 101, change 0, 12 Mb/s Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert last message repeated 3 times Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: hub.c: port 2, portstatus 103, change 0, 12 Mb/s Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/2, assigned device number 8 Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: usb.c: kmalloc IF c2a23d80, numif 1 Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: usb.c: new device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: usb.c: USB device number 8 default language ID 0x409 Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: Manufacturer: Apacer Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: Product: HandyDrive Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: SerialNumber: 191B030900BE Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: usb-storage: act_altsettting is 0 Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: usb-storage: id_index calculated to be: 62 Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: usb-storage: Array length appears to be: 64 Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: usb-storage: USB Mass Storage device detected Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: usb-storage: Endpoints: In: 0xc1188e20 Out: 0xc1188e34 Int: 0xc1188e48 (Period 1) Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: usb-storage: Found existing GUID 0d7d01000000191b030900be Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: WARNING: USB Mass Storage data integrity not assured Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: USB Mass Storage device found at 8 Oct 8 17:52:12 dabbert kernel: usb.c: usb-storage driver claimed interface c2a23d80 --------------------- logmessage when I plugout: Oct 8 17:54:10 dabbert kernel: uhci.c: root-hub INT complete: port1: 80 port2: 8a data: 4 Oct 8 17:54:10 dabbert kernel: hub.c: port 1, portstatus 100, change 0, 12 Mb/s Oct 8 17:54:10 dabbert kernel: hub.c: port 2, portstatus 100, change 3, 12 Mb/s Oct 8 17:54:10 dabbert kernel: hub.c: port 2 connection change Oct 8 17:54:10 dabbert kernel: hub.c: port 2, portstatus 100, change 3, 12 Mb/s Oct 8 17:54:10 dabbert kernel: usb.c: USB disconnect on device 8 Oct 8 17:54:10 dabbert kernel: usb-storage: storage_disconnect() called Oct 8 17:54:10 dabbert kernel: usb-storage: -- releasing main URB Oct 8 17:54:10 dabbert kernel: usb-storage: -- usb_unlink_urb() returned -19 Oct 8 17:54:11 dabbert kernel: uhci.c: root-hub INT complete: port1: 80 port2: 88 data: 4 Oct 8 17:54:11 dabbert kernel: hub.c: port 1, portstatus 100, change 0, 12 Mb/s Oct 8 17:54:11 dabbert kernel: hub.c: port 2, portstatus 100, change 2, 12 Mb/s Oct 8 17:54:11 dabbert kernel: hub.c: port 2 enable change, status 100 -- /---------------------------------------------/ Bram de Kruijff <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> /---------------------------------------------/ :wq ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe, use the last form field at: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-usb-users ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe, use the last form field at: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-usb-users
