Greetings.

I'm new to this list, and am now on it because of the message quoted
below. Has anything been done with this, or am I the only (other)
person with Linux and the X10 usb adapter for the VR31A camera receiver?

SUBJECT: [Linux-usb-users] [Q] X10 - VA11A - Video to USB Adaptor

All,

I have a new VA11A from X10.com. It looks to me like the originals
used Nogatech chips, but the Linux Nogatech driver didn't work for
me. lsusb gives me this:

  idVendor 0x0733 ViewQuest Technologies, Inc.
idProduct 0x0430 Intel Pro Share WebCam
  bcdDevice 0.90

This definitely isn't the code from the original X10 devices.

Of course the best way to find out what was inside was to take it
apart. :)

The Video-USB chip is a Sunplus SPCA506A1. The EEPROM has been
reprogrammed with a custom vendor ID, and Product.

I haven't been able to track down any Linux support for this chip
yet. Has anyone else had better luck? The best I have is the users
manual for it:
http://www.sunplus.com.tw/products/pdf/media/spca/datasheet/ca506a1v10.pdf

I was thinking of taking a crack at writing a driver for this, but have
never written such a beast for usb devices. Any pointers on the best
way to
tackle this?

TIA,
Patrick
