Doc, Can't address the Cruzer directly, but I am using a Lexmark Memory Stick reader. I added the following to my /etc/fstab: /dev/sda1 /media/memstick/ auto noauto,user,sync 0 0 then simply to a: mount /media/memstick when I want to use it, and a: umount /media/memstick when I'm done. All the USB stuff was already running under SuSE 7.3... good luck!
