If you are convinced that the .config that you have provided is really the configuration of the kernel you are running, then there is something truly strange about the mouse. Can you try compiling the code at: http://www.frogmouth.net/hid-doco/examples/hiddev-misc/dump-events.c and running it against the hiddev device? I don't need any events, I just need the Application field(s).
