i have the same problem. when i connect a usb-cf-reader to the bus and afterwards a digital kamera - the partitiontable isn't read again. so the first read on a partition that wasn't present on the cf fails on the kamera the first time.
this seems to be a bug, but i'm not skilled enough to fix it.
maybe there is someone out ther who can?
