Soft modems (winmodems) aren't supported AFAIK.

What model HP printer?  Some printers don't have resident fonts in them,
so echoing text to them won't work, but printing to them with ghostview
or gimp-print etc. will work.

Hm, it's listed as "mostly working".
Look here:

There's a driver (filter) for it listed there.
