I would like to thank everyone for their advice on my previous email. The
usbide module is compiled and loaded, but we're not up and running yet.
We have a SCSI only Debian 3.0 system (now with a USB drive) running a
2.4.18 kernel. /proc/scsi/scsi doesn't list our USB device (and may not
need to since it appears to be identified as a printer port device).
/proc/bus/usb/devices does show our USB device.

This seems to indicate the device should be on /dev/pda as previous
emails suggested. Now the kicker, our system doesn't have any
/dev/pda devices. I tried to install the pd module, but it choked. A
piece of information that may or may not be significant (the paride part worried me), we do no have any IDE devices and do not load the modules.

> modprobe pd
/lib/modules/2.4.18-686/kernel/drivers/block/paride/pd.o: init_module:
Operation not permitted
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters,
including invalid IO or IRQ parameters
/lib/modules/2.4.18-686/kernel/drivers/block/paride/pd.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.18-686/kernel/drivers/block/paride/pd.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.18-686/kernel/drivers/block/paride/pd.o: insmod pd failed

We would appreciate any ideas about how to fix or work around this
problem. Thanks.
