I tried the scanner on my laptop with windows xp, it get's recognized without 
a problem, alas no other usb apparatus present.

What does that mean??
I tried to change in the integrated peripherals section of the bios to set usb 
controller to 4 and 6 instead of 2 but the machine wouldnot bootup anymore so 
i restored 2 and the machine boots again.
