I had problems with the 2.5.x series, apparently they need devfs or something. The standard devices and access methods (e.g. /proc/bus/usb) no longer exist in 2.5.x and the tools (usbtree, etc.) don't work. Maybe I had misconfigured it, I'm not sure. I didn't spend much time looking at the documentation, I was in a hurry to get it working. :-)
You might want to try 2.4.21-pre, maybe some of the bugs have been fixed. 2.4.20 seems to work pretty well though.
