Hey, thanks for everybody's help on this. It took me two weeks to figure out the hard drive in the USB enclosure was kaputz. SCHISH!!
Once I replaced the drive, and reverted back to the stock SuSE 8.1 kernel and modules, everything worked perfectly as expected (and dmesg clearly told me what device I had to mount!) Thanks again, you all have been great help. -- Ryan * Dirk Husemann <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote on [02-14-03y 08:30]: > On 02/12/2003 10:59 AM, Thomas Zauner wrote: > > >i rebooted and loaded M$-XP and it works fine, so the hardware and > >cabele'ing seems ok. > > > >i don't understand why the linux scsi-mod doesn't log what dev it > >activates in /var/log/messages , like the kernel does on bootup in > >/var/log/dmesg . > > > > > >Thomas > > > insmod usb-storage > insmod sd_mod > > look at the /var/log/messages, you ought to see something like this: > > Feb 4 15:53:40 valbella kernel: hub.c: new USB device 00:1d.0-1, > assigned address 3 > Feb 4 15:53:44 valbella /etc/hotplug/usb.agent: Setup usb-storage for > USB product e79/1/1 > Feb 4 15:53:47 valbella automount[10827]: attempting to mount entry > /misc/jukebox > Feb 4 15:53:47 valbella kernel: Attached scsi disk sda at scsi1, > channel 0, id 0, lun 0 > Feb 4 15:53:47 valbella kernel: SCSI device sda: 39070081 512-byte hdwr > sectors (20004 MB) > Feb 4 15:53:47 valbella kernel: sda: sda1 > > the last line tells you the SCSI dev: /dev/sda1 > > -- > Dr Dirk Husemann, Pervasive Computing, IBM Research, Zurich Research Lab > [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- http://www.zurich.ibm.com/~hud/ > PGP key: http://www.zurich.ibm.com/~hud/contact-pgp.html > PGP Fingerprint: 983C 48E7 0A78 A313 401C C4AD 3C0A 278E 6431 A149 > -- +-------------------------------+ | [EMAIL PROTECTED] | | http://www.pnwtripreports.com | +-------------------------------+ ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek Welcome to geek heaven. http://thinkgeek.com/sf _______________________________________________ [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe, use the last form field at: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-usb-users
