Ah, sounds like just the same problem I have, one machine hangs like this and the other does not. I build my own kernels. I find it works for me if MULTI_LUN is not set, but hangs if it is. I want it for the SD card slot mainly, but the Smartmedia slot (/dev/sda) is useful on occasion. What have you done about APIC and ACPI settings? The machine that works has CONFIG_X86_UP_APIC=y and CONFIG_X86_UP_IOAPIC=y, but no ACPI enabled. The broken one has neither APIC setting enabled, nor ACPI. I've seen some stuff on LKML suggesting that for VIA chipsets APIC won't work until at least 2.4.21-pre5-ac2, but equally others seem to report that ACPI is necessary. I've tried vanilla 2.4.20, 2.4.19 and also 2.4.21-pre4 and 5 but not the -ac tree. I find it pretty confusing and for now I can live with the card reader (which is not the same as yours, its USB ID is aec:3050) on one machine and not the other. But I'd like to know what to do to have it just work. Also, I'd like to know what the difference between UP_APIC and LOCAL_APIC is too, unless one is the old config setting and the other the new one. - -- Brian Morrison bdm at fenrir dot org dot uk -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+a7Qh9BNjUd4y5cURApeCAKCNvCFhgI+ZSwuo9T4CWXuENBau5ACgu3sK ywz3Rs8EY9ZBg02n7Ii5ktE= =Il/T -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Etnus, makers of TotalView, The debugger for complex code.
