Hi!
I have got a Logitech MouseMan Dual Optical. Under Windows XP it works simply
by plug&play (and even better with the Logitech driver). Under Linux the red
light of the mouse is on but I have not seen any moving mouse pointer.
This is my equipment:
Red Hat 8
kernel 2.4.18-14custom (compiled in order to have support for NTFS harddisks;
I didn't change anything else in menuconfig)
XFree86 Version 4.2.0
"Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller" (at least this is the
one mentioned in Windows XP and there everything seems to work)
- When unplugging and replugging the mouse I get the following messages in
/var/log/messages:
Mar 31 22:50:18 pepi kernel: usb.c: USB disconnect on device 2
Mar 31 22:50:23 pepi kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/1, assigned
device number 3
Mar 31 22:50:23 pepi kernel: hiddev0: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [Logitech USB-PS/2
Optical Mouse] on usb1:3.0
Mar 31 22:50:26 pepi /etc/hotplug/usb.agent: Setup hid for USB product
46d/c012/1320
Mar 31 22:50:26 pepi /etc/hotplug/usb.agent: Setup mousedev for USB product
46d/c012/1320
I never get any output when trying cat /dev/input/mice.

I have not installed the module usbmouse (as recommended in
www.linux-usb.org).
Shall I compile a newer kernel?
Is IMPS/2 the right protocol?
I don't know what Red Hat does with the selections I perform in the dialogue
System Settings > Mouse. I have tried several mice. None worked.
Can anybody help me?
Konrad
P.S.: Please send a copy of your answer to my email-address as I haven't got
the confirmation message by the mailing list yet.
