Hello,
I recently purchased a cheapo card reader
(http://store.yahoo.com/meritline/rid5in1usbca.html) which I have thus far
been unable to get working in Linux. Everything looks fine except for
/proc/scsi/scsi, which shows
Attached devices: none
The CD-ROM that was bundled with the reader has a Linux directory that
includes standard instructions for setting up a USB mass storage device.
The reader works fine in Windows XP and Mac OS X, so I at least know that
it's functional. Also, my NexII MP3 player works with Linux.
I'm running kernel 2.4.20-ck7 (Con Kolivas's souped-up kernel), but I have
the same problems with the latest Gentoo kernel on another system. I must
confess that I haven't tried a vanilla kernel yet, though.
Here's an excerpt of lsmod with relevant entries:
usb-storage 21624 0
scsi_mod 82664 3 [usb-storage]
usb-uhci 22572 0 (unused)
usbcore 58624 1 [usb-storage hid usb-uhci]
'mount' shows
none on /proc/bus/usb type usbdevfs (rw)
The portion of /proc/bus/usb/devices pertaining to the reader:
E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.) MxPS= 8 Ivl=10ms

/proc/scsi/usb-storage-0/0 shows:

Attached: Yes
And finally, /var/log/messages right after I plug the damn thing in:
Jun 7 11:09:22 dhalgren kernel: hub.c: new USB device 00:10.0-2.4,
assigned address 6
Jun 7 11:09:22 dhalgren kernel: scsi0 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass
Storage devices
Does anyone have any ideas? My next plan is to try out the latest 2.5
kernel; if it's supported there, then I can wait for 2.6.
Thanks!
