Alex,

The scanner kernel driver is part of the kernel and will load
automatically when you plug-in/turn on the scanner, you may want to
upgrade the sane-backend drivers to the latest version 1.0.12 available
at http://rawhide.redhat.com/pub/redhat/linux/rawhide/i386/RedHat/RPMS/
which has better support for USB scanners, however this scanner should
work with RH-8 out of the box.
