You might want to try the -rc2 version of that kernel, I think I saw
something about some USB fixes going in there.  But I gave up with
late 2.4 kernels and USB a while ago, and switched to 2.5 which has
been much better for me.  I'm planning to look at the fixes in kernel
2.5.70 because there were a couple of nasty surprises with formatting
filesystems using 2.5.69...  =:0
