I know this is probably answered already somewhere, but I'm having trouble finding it :)
Basically, I have a box with no serial ports (only USB) and a customer in Japan who just got a brand new USB UPS. Now, I had a USB UPS and managed to make it all work fine, but this new one doesn't work, and I can't figure out why. This is what I _think_ is happening, but I can't figure out how to fix it : The USB (hotplug?) system sees the device and says "hey, that's a hid device, I'll load the hid driver" and the hid driver loads and says "I don't see anything that belongs to me" so it doesn't create any device info. So what I see from the user side is that devfs doesn't create /dev/usb/hid/hiddev0 and so I can't access the UPS (creating the file with mknod manually didn't help : it still can't see the device) I'm using a vanilla 2.4.20 kernel (same kernel on both) and it's running on an IBM x335 (the one that doesn't work : ServerWorks P4-Xeon chipset) and an IBM x330 (the one that does work, also ServerWorks, but P3, not P4 XEON) I can put the working one on an x335 if you think that will make a difference, but the fact that it sees the device, just refuses to talk to it, leads me to believe that won't help in this case :( The box that works : Bus 001 Device 002: ID 051d:0002 American Power Conversion Back-UPS Pro 500 /proc/bus/usb/devices shows : T: Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 2 Spd=1.5 MxCh= 0 D: Ver= 1.10 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1 P: Vendor=051d ProdID=0002 Rev= 1.00 S: Manufacturer=American Power Conversion S: Product=Back-UPS Office 350 FW: 3.3.D USB FW: d1 S: SerialNumber=BB0209000259 C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=a0 MxPwr= 30mA I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 1 Cls=03(HID ) Sub=00 Prot=00 Driver=hid E: Ad=81(I) Atr=03(Int.)
