Hello,

This is the famous "USB device not accepting new address" problem... Before going
further, just know that:
- the noapic trick doesn't work
- there is no IRQ conflict
- the /proc/bus/usb is correct
- there is no mainboard bios update
- I searched everywhere, including in this mailing list, but found nothing to solve the problem :)

The description: when I plug an usb mouse, the handshaking between the USB controler and the
mouse fails with

usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout
usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=2 (error=-110)

My configuration:

- Elite Group laptop (http://www.ecs.com.tw), G551 model (same as Gericom centrino laptop)

- Pentium M processor

- Linux RedHat 9, full install

- lspci result:

00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB (Hub #1) (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [UHCI])
00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB (Hub #2) (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [UHCI])
00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB (Hub #3) (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [UHCI])
00:1d.7 USB Controller: Intel Corp. 82801DB USB EHCI Controller (rev 03) (prog-if 20 [EHCI])
02:04.1 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Ricoh Co Ltd R5C551 IEEE 1394 Controller (prog-if 10 [OHCI])

- IRQ:

CPU0 0: 50541 XT-PIC timer
1: 334 XT-PIC keyboard
2: 0 XT-PIC cascade
8: 1 XT-PIC rtc
10: 0 XT-PIC ehci-hcd, usb-uhci, usb-uhci, usb-uhci
11: 156 XT-PIC ohci1394, eth0, Ricoh Co Ltd RL5c475
12: 3487 XT-PIC PS/2 Mouse
14: 18235 XT-PIC ide0
15: 7064 XT-PIC ide1
NMI: 0
ERR: 0

- /proc/bus/usb content:

001
002
003
004
devices
drivers

So, as you can see the USB driver is an Intel 82801DB. usb-uhci AND uhci drivers cause the same
message. Actually this is a request to the USB developpers...

Any help is appreciated... Thank you !

Sincerely yours,

Pierre Nguyen Tuong.
