Hi, I'm trying to solve a strange problem with my USB audio interface (M-Audio Audiophile USB) and ALSA. It only works if the snd-usb-audio module is unloaded, and I then plug in the interface and let hotplug load snd-usb-audio.
If I plug in the interface when snd-usb-audio is already loaded, OR I manually modprobe snd-usb-audio (or /etc/init.d/alsasound start) when the interface is already plugged in, any sound I try to play comes out as noise. I also get a bunch of lines like this periodically in /var/log/debug: Aug 7 01:58:12 pured8a kernel: usb.c: usb-check-bandwidth would have FAILED: was 826, would be 940, bustime = 114 us What could be the difference between hotplug loading the driver and a modprobe that happens any other way? I've asked the developers on the alsa-devel mailinglist about the noise problem and they don't know what's causing it. I'm using ALSA 0.9.6 with kernel 2.4.21, hotplug 0.0.20030501.
