It would be a lot easier to diagnose this problem if you'd provided the information requested in the Linux USB FAQ (on http://www.linux-usb.org).

Whatever. Should be trivial, since that is what the event dumper code does. > I know that there are HIDDEV and EVDEV examples to be found on the guide > written by Brad Hards at frogmount.net but I am having problems getting > them to work. It helps enormously to see the actual error as output by the system, and key information like the contents of /proc/bus/usb/devices and /proc/bus/usb/drivers. Also, the loaded modules list might help. Generally is a very bad idea to try to sumarise - if you knew what was important, you probably won't need to ask for help. > the usb_devfs is on since /proc exists, lsmod shows the hid module > running and I can use both the usb mouse and usb keyboard that are > install on the system -- what am I missing ? Probably you haven't configured the event interface (or some other part of the input subsystem) correctly. > I am running 2.4.20-8 and did a total rebuild of the kernel each time. > (Newbie question -- does recompiling a lot cause things to run out of > wack ? Also, it is very difficult to support vendor kernels, so please use kernel.org tarballs.
