It helps enormously to see the actual error as output by the system, and key 
information like the contents of /proc/bus/usb/devices and 
/proc/bus/usb/drivers. Also, the loaded modules list might help.
Generally is a very bad idea to try to sumarise - if you knew what was 
important, you probably won't need to ask for help.

Probably you haven't configured the event interface (or some other part of the 
input subsystem) correctly.

Your kernel build shouldn't be affected by libraries. There is a kernel build 
howto on the Linux Documentation Project. Try that. Also, it is very 
difficult to support vendor kernels, so please use kernel.org tarballs.
