Could you please provide details about this scanner?

E.g. the output of "cat /proc/bus/usb/devices" when it's plugged in?
So I can at least add it's ids to the Linux kernel driver.

Concerning SANE, we don't know anything about the chip used in this
scanner so I can't comment on if it's supported by any backend.

If you want support for that s canner (if it's not already there),
start writing a backend:
http://www.meier-geinitz.de/sane/misc/unsupported.html

Otherwise I recommend to only buy devices that are supported by SANE.
