Using hid, we have low end USB keyboards which occasionally stop working, and need to be unplugged and plugged in again to resume operation. Unloading the USB modules and reloading them also fixes this.
Is this a fairly common occurance? Is it possible to catch a disconnect event and reinit the device automatically? This happens on a 2.4.21 kernel, hid driver, both ohci and uhci (different machines).
