Hi All--
As far as I can tell, my speed problem was related to cp -r onto a FAT32
partition. When I copied a monolithic 1.2 GB file, it took almost
exactly the same time as it did to a native IDE disk, and the follow-up
sync took almost no time.
However, I've got the 120GB disk hooked to my Orange Micro card through
a D-link 4-port USB2 hub, and only port one works. The other three
provoke dmesg errors when I plug a device into any of them, whether or
not port 1 is in use. Here are the errors I get (they're the same,
regardless of port connected to):

...until I give up and plug into either port 1 or one of the other 4

This is with RH 7.2, 2.4.18-3 kernel.
Has anyone else had trouble with hubs? D-link hubs in particular?
