Thank you for your help. In the meantime I have installed the
kernel-image-2.4.22 debian package which solved the problem. (The
warning message "device is not claimed by ..." is still there, but the
camera is recognized and handled by usb-storage properly. In the changes
list of kernel version 2.4.22 I saw that somebody updated unusual_devs.h
to handle DSC-P9. I think he raised the the upper limit on the revision
number, which solved the problem with DSC-P32 too.
Since I'm going to buy a Sony DSC-F828 (it should be released in a
few weeks) I expect to face the same problem again. I hope I can solve
it based on the information you provided. To whom should I report the
result (actual revision number of DSC-F828) to include it in the
official usb-storage code?
