Yes. The behaviour of the scanner driver may not be perfect but the
original maintainer says that it's intended behaviour. With the patch,
some scanners don't seem to work.

There are two or three scanners that show this problem. I have gotten
about 5 reports about this trouble since I took over maintainership.
As >99% of the scanners do work, it's too risky to change the behaviour.
