I had problems with rmmod hanging and segfaulting on 2.4.18-2.4.2x kernels. This was with Intel and VIA chipsets, and USB mass-storage devices (camera, card reader, Zip drive). [...]

It might be worth giving -test5 a shot if you're reasonably relaxed
about compiling kernels and you're not too worried about it failing to
solve your problem.

Well, I'll try ;)

I compiled the test11 about 20 times last night to try out ACPI. Funny things... my notebook (I own it for over two years now) *DOES* support CPU throttling! And it works. Would be *such* a great feature :( And even StandBy works with acpi. But suspend to disk does not, it hangs up after resume (using BIOS support for suspend/resume). Mybe I'll give swsusp a shot, can't hurt (much).

Anyway, my solution was - as the usb rmmod's fine *before* the powersave cycle - using apmd to rmmod before suspend and automatically modprobe after resume. Works. As long as there is no unmounted usb hd connected, I think ;)

Well, scripts can be enhanced.

I'll notice the list wether test5 did anything usefull!

thanks,
 Lars
