I've been trying to compile my own kernel (version 2.4.22), and when using "make xconfig", for some reason USB 2.0 support (which is under the label EHCI) is disabled so I can't select it. I have chosen Yes for the "Support for USB" option at the top. Does anyone know what might cause this to be disabled? I was able to choose it when compiling kernel version 2.4.21, so I find it strange.
