I have a problem with the Alcatel Speedtouch ADSL modem. My usb and ppp configuration
should be ok, since I can connect to my isp and download and upload at full speed.
However, sometimes I get disconnected.
I use the kernel module and the speedmgmt program to upload the firmware to the modem
(http://linux-usb.sourceforge.net/SpeedTouch/about/index.html), then pppd to connect,
but I have the same problem with the user level application (modem_run,
http://sourceforge.net/projects/speedtouch).
Looking at my logs, I can see that the usb module says that the modem has been
disconnected from the usb interface, but of course this is not the case.
>From /var/log/messages:

kernel: USB disconnect on device 00:04.2-1 address 6
kernel: hub.c: new USB device 00:04.2-1, assigned address 7

this is replied two times more, with appropriate addresses. It seems like the modem
disconnects and reconnects to the usb port by itself.
Where can be the problem? usb implementation, modem hardware or motherboard?
There are some infos on my sistem:
Slackware 9.1
kernel 2.4.22 with ipsec module (by FreeSwan)
config_usb_ehci_hcd=m
config_usb_uhci=y
(usb uhci_alt and ohci are not set, since I have a intel 440bx motherboard)
config_usb_speedtouch=y

Finally, I say that I tried to change usb port (I have two on my pc), but the problem
remains. Also, I have another usb device (a wi-fi adapter) which doesn't have this
problem.

Thank you VERY much for your help!!
