Whoops, thanks for that. Ok, now I'm connected to the drive at 480Mb/s. Using dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/... block=1024 count=1024000 (1000MB), I get writing rates of about 8MB/s. A similar command reading from the drive and writing to /dev/null gives me about 9MB/s. Any idea whether I can improve those numbers? (I can't connect to the drive with firewire for some reason.)
