Hello There,

I am planning on writing a device driver for a standalone touchpad,
the USB SmartCat from Cirque
(http://www.cirque.com/products/smart.html)

The touchpad itself works fine as a IMPS/2 mouse but I want to use it
as a sort of 3D-input device so I need absolute readings in order to
properly program each edge as a different "dial" and do other nifty
things.

I did some googling and greping and could not find any reference to
linux support for the touchpad I mentioned so I am assuming there is
no driver for it.

I already got the specs from Cirque but I could use some help getting
started with this project, for instance, do I need to touch the kernel
or can I do this in user space?

I've never done this kind of C programming (only graphics) but I would
really like to try this device as explained above.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers and happy new year,
        Zac
