That was probably something I wrote about a completely different device.  
That other device just would not work at all 90% of the time.  Your device
has quite a different problem: it works, but now and then the GeneSys
controller hangs or crashes.

I looked at them.  They don't contain any useful information; all they say
is that the controller implements the various USB and ATA/ATAPI standards.  
That is true, but it doesn't implement them well enough to work reliably.

Have you tried getting in touch with anyone in the technical department at 
GeneSys Logic Inc. to ask them why their devices don't work under Linux?
That's probably the only way to figure out what the problem is.  Only they 
have the knowledge and resources to determine what's going wrong inside 
their controllers.
