FireWire supports this feature well, and it is present on all computers that Apple makes. You can implement a network directly over FW wires, as it does not care about host/device as much as USB does.
I'm not sure that Linux supports disk mode with Firewire, but you may want to check http://www.linux1394.org. It definately supports network over firewire, so that you can have a 400Mbps connection.
