I have a Mapower external usb drive enclosure model MAP-Y51. It uses the Genesys GL811E USB-IDE bridge chipset. It hangs on large transfers and when using hdparm -t /dev/sda in USB 2.0 mode using the EHCI module. It works fine in USB 1.1 mode using the UHCI module. I've scoured the USB lists and realise that there are issues with the Genesys chipsets and Linux.

Things I've tried which have failed:
upgrading to 2.6.1
patching scsiglue.c to set the max_sectors to the recommended lower values
restricting rsync bandwith

Is there a current patch someone has developed or should I throw the thing in the bin and get a different device. If the latter, what is a device that is known to work reliably at USB 2.0 speeds?

My system:
Linux 2.6.1
Asus P4p800 mainboard with Intel 82801EB USB controller
The rest as above

Many thanks,

Adam
