Hi,

I have an HP DeskJet 895Cxi printer. When I have the USB filesystem mounted, it causes
my printer
to do weird things. If it actually prints a whole page, there will be artifacts on the
page
(random lines, sometimes non-alphanumeric characters, etc). If it doesn't print a
whole page, it
will usually start to print a page, then eject that page, load the next page and
scroll down to
where it left off and print some more. Sometimes it'll go onto a third page. The
offset from the
top is correct for each part of the printed page, which seems very weird to me.

Without the USB filesystem mounted, I don't get artifacts, documents print fine, etc.
Is there any
real advantage to using the USB filesystem (is it even worth trying to fix)? All I've
used it for
in the past is usbview to show what devices I have, but beyond that everything else
(PDAs,
keyboard, mouse, printer, etc.) seems to work just fine without it.

Here's info about my system:
Mandrake 9.2
Most of the printing packages from 9.1 (although I'm using the 9.1 packages because I
wanted to
see if the new Mandrake 9.2 packages were at fault) - problems with both 9.1 and 9.2
packages.
hotplug 2002_04_01
initscripts 7.06-32mdk
hpijs 1.3.1 (although I've tried the 1.4 and 1.5 series, and all failed)

Currently running kernel 2.4.21-0.13mdk, but have tried 2.4.22 Mandrake kernels,
2.4.22 vanilla
kernel, and a few others, and all have the same problem.

Does anyone have any idea why the USB filesystem might be causing this to happen to my
printer?
I've spent a few months trying to figure this out, and it was only tonight that I
realized that
the filesystem was the cause. Thanks.

Nathan Owens
